Every year, up to 140,000 people die in situations where First Aid knowledge could have given them a chance to live. This knowledge can save a life.
In conjunction with St John Cymru, it is our vision to have a First Aider in every home in Wales; therefore we will be taking part in the St John Cymru ‘Schools Award’ scheme.
It has been created to recognise schools in Wales that show a commitment to the health and safety of their staff, community and pupils. As well as equipping staff with the necessary skills to respond in an emergency.
First Aid gives pupils a chance to ‘develop self-esteem and a sense of personal responsibility’, ‘equip themselves to live safe, healthy lives’ and ‘develop practical skills necessary for everyday life’. (Personal and social education framework for 7-19 year olds in Wales)
